Just added a few slides to the DIYNGO website (www.diyngo.org) under 'resources'. They are designed for a local audience of around 10 to 11 year old young people but do feel free to adapt them. They give a little background to climate change and pr…

And here we have a combined anemometer and light meter which I tested today. The light meter showed that there was plenty of light to power a solar cell but the anemometer hardly turned - part of this may be down to the design so it needs to be tes…

This is Duncan using the prototype solar computer (actually we eventually used his own solar equipment to power this session). He is based in a small rural Kenyan village near Lake Bogoria. Duncan now as updated his mobile phone to a Chinese N96i so…

Thank you Mary for this moving account of a community at the sharp end of climate change. Here in the UK today our ministers have been meeting to discuss the effects of climate change and presumably what we in the 'developed' countries can do to hel…

Forgot to say that the new wood hub extension is the base from a 'mug tree' purchased from a charity shop for a pound. The centre hole was then widened with a couple of different sized files so that it fitted over the axle.

This is the latest version of Big Prop which uses the Dynohub as a generator. The same blades are used as previously described but a wooden extension to the hub is now screwed onto the smallest of the two hubs (having nine holes). This then allows t…

DIYNGO has accepted an invitation from UN DSPD-DESA to join an initiative called "ICTs and Civil Society to Promote Social Development". We're not sure what it entails yet besides sharing 'best practices'. It is, however, an interesting development…

Hmmm...was thinking on the bus today how important it is in attempting to solve these problems we all face today on a 'meta level'. That is, we have to detach ourselves from the immediacy - the here and now - of our lives, escape the everyday and re…

Renewable energy is not just of interest for Developing Countries. In the UK the government, quite rightly, is concerned that we may not be able to meet the energy demands of our own future society. Hence the call for evidence for delivering secure…

Thanks Mary. It does seem unfortunate to be 'wasting' such a valuable resource. Although I do read that people are starting to realise that it is a viable national asset. I think that with increasing demands being placed upon countries as alternativ…

Climate Change and You!

Just added a few slides to the DIYNGO website (www.diyngo.org) under 'resources'. They are designed for a local audience of around 10 to 11 year old young people but do feel free to adapt them.

They give a little background to climate change and provide a little motivation for doing the kind of thing we do.
